slope glider

The Fastest readily available mouldie in the world, the Opus is now available in Australia. With a top recorded speed of 524kph (328mph) the MCT or T-tailed opus is the latest version of this Czech manufactured glider and one of the most sought after Dynamic Soaring models. The Opus has been around for many years in its original V-tailed slope configuration. Its consistent quality and performance helped to drive a range of lay ups and versions of this model, with an Opus W, an Opus T and even an electric version, the Colt, being produced. With increasing DS speeds, the lay up of the Standard Carbon Opus V was continually modified, allowing the plane to handle the abuse that the top DS pilots were giving it. The glass Opus was also improved with a double glass lay up being brought out by Espen Torp.

Falcon Gliders supply the V-tailed and T-tailed Opus in both the stronger glass lay up and also the very popular MC Carbon lay up.

The Opus features a one piece wing with live hinged and wipered flaps and ailerons. Servo cut outs are done in the factory and even the supplied servo covers for the wing are pre-trimmed. The wing also houses the ballast tube with access to this tube located on the underside of the wing. This perfectly fits the 11mm brass ballast slugs that are provided with each plane and add an extra 300grams for those windy days. This wing fits both the T-tailed and V-tailed Opus versions and the double glass wing features a much stronger glass lay up, stronger than many other full carbon planes. The spar has also been beefed up. The MCV / MCT version has carbon, carbon and more carbon with of course a very stiff spar.

The double glass fuselages are also stronger than a standard glass model and are ideal for 2.4ghz with a full glass nose area but plenty or carbon for strength just around the wing saddle area. MC version fuselages are like the wing, lots of carbon and very stiff. Some of the top DS pilots found slight flex in the tail boom when flying over 300mph (a speed we are still dreaming about) so our MC fuses now come with additional carbon tow in the booms for added strength. The V-tailed fuselage is narrower, especially at the nose end with the T-tailed fuse starting life as a modified Colt or electric Opus fuselage. A dedicated slope fuse is now made for the T-tailed Opus but it has kept its porky appearance which is great for fitting larger battery packs and gear. Both versions are made without canopy or nose cone and give the front end heaps of strength. The V-tailed fuse requires 1-2 servos mounted up in the nose or in the wing saddle area while the T-tail fuses have a servo mounting area in the fin complete with servo cover.

The V-tail and T-tails are similar in that they are both removable, being secured to the fuse with two bolts making transport of the model a little easier. The elevators are live hinged with wipers and linkages already fitted.

Falcon Gliders can supply recommended servos, JR receivers / transmitters, quality Eneloop battery packs and now also stock a range of hardware that can be supplied with the Opus. We also supply the Plane Quiver 80" Bags that perfectly fit the one piece Opus wing for that extra protection on the way to the slope.
